A "green corridor" was created on to transport a liver for a transplant from JIPMER, Pondicherry to Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Madurai.

A 59-year-old man's life was saved in Madurai by an 8 year old brain dead boy from Pondicherry with the help of a team of transplant doctors and Tamilnadu traffic police officials who worked together to get him a liver transplant on time. Around 10.40 am, the liver was harvested from the donor in Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Pondicherry and transported through a well-equipped ambulance and a team of doctors. The organ had to be transported to Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Madurai immediately so that the transplant operation could take place without the loss of valuable time.

The route which is usually heavily congested with traffic and multiple traffic lights takes at least 6 hours to 8 hours journey from Pondicherry to Madurai. Thanks to the green corridor organised by the Police officials from both Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry, the ambulance carrying the liver reached the hospital in a record 3 hours.
