    Apollo Proton Cancer Centre has launched a comprehensive cancer screening campaign on International Women’s Day – Screen to Win.

    Apollo Proton Cancer Centre has launched a dedicated year-long International Women’s Day campaign “Screen to Win” in Tamil Nadu. This campaign by Apollo Proton Cancer Centre illustrates the importance of regular examination and screening to keep a check on cancer and have timely treatment for a better outcome. Apollo Proton Cancer Centre has always been at the forefront to provide best quality checks, treatment and holistic care. This initiative is centered to encourage women to get screened, gain knowledge on cancer and its symptoms to watch out for early detection.

    The campaign and the Apollo Mobile Health Bus was inaugurated and flagged off by Ms. Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, Member of Parliament-Lok Sabha; Ms. Preetha Reddy, Executive Vice Chairperson Apollo Hospitals and Ms. Saindhavi, the popular Singer at Apollo Proton Cancer Centre, Chennai.

    As a part of the initiative, the screening program will be hosted in association with Lions Club, Rotary Club & IPSOWA (IPS Officers Wives’ Association-TN). It will be conducted in the Apollo Mobile Health Bus equipped with Digital Mammogram, X-Ray, Ultrasound (Breast & whole abdomen), Pap smear test, ECG, ECHO, basic comprehensive test, BMI, RBS & BP. There will also be a doctor on board for consultation. The Apollo Mobile Health bus will travel across Tamil Nadu and provide quality screening to women and spread awareness about early detection and regular screenings. The first mobile screening camp was organised at Rajarathinam Stadium for women Police officers and their families.

    Commenting on the occasion, Ms. Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, said, “It is a matter of great pride to be associated with an initiative targeted towards empowering women by creating awareness on cancer and its symptoms with the motto of identifying it early and treating with newer technologies for better quality of life. Knowledge brings patience and contentment in coping with any situation. I salute this initiative and hope more and more women will join this cause to get screened via the Apollo Mobile Health Bus. Panning across Tamil Nadu, this is a step towards educating and reaching out to interior part of the state where new technology and treatments are yet to be introduced.”

    Sharing her thoughts, Ms Preetha Reddy, Executive Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals Group, said, “In line with our vision to be at the forefront to battle cancer, we have launched a campaign ‘Screen to Win’ a step towards creating awareness about the need for regular screenings. This International Women’s day, Apollo Proton Cancer Centre is channeling its efforts to provide an opportunity for women across the State to come visit us at Apollo Mobile Health Bus for cancer screening. Through this initiative, we plan to screen over 2,000 plus women per month. We understand the immediate need for women to know the importance of early detection and regular screenings. We urge every woman to step up for themselves by empowering with right knowledge about cancer and ways to prevent it.”

    In observance of the event, Dr. Sapna Nangia, Senior Consultant, Radiation Oncology (Breast & Gynec), Apollo Proton Cancer Centre, said, “According to the recent statistics, it has been concluded that being the most common type of cancer in women, breast cancer accounts for 14% of cancers in Indian women. Due to lack of awareness and knowledge about breast cancer, patients often present with advanced cancers that are more difficult to treat. In more than 50% of Indian women cancer patients, the diagnosis is made in stage 3 or 4 of breast cancer. This International Women’s Day, I urge every woman in our country to get educated about breast cancer and visit us at the Apollo Proton Cancer Centre or the Apollo Mobile Health Bus or be her own examiner. Let’s pledge to be our own saviors.”
